Retirement incentives boost Eastchester schools '08 payroll - Journal News
Six retiring teachers received payouts last year of more than $62,000 apiece that were close to the salaries they
were already receiving. Douglas Oliver, the head custodial worker, made $25,802 in overtime to boost his total

Unlike most private retirees, New York public workers pay only 3 percent of their salary to the pension
system, while the nationwide average is 8 percent. And after 10 years of service, state workers no
longer contribute anything to their pensions. In addition, they receive cost-of-living increases and
lifetime health insurance, pay no state or local taxes on their pensions and do not have to deduct an
offset for for Social Security.
