Teachers' Contract History
May 2006
The school district just approved a new 5 year teacher's contract on May 17, the day after the budget vote and
board election.
What are the full terms of the contract? Very little information has been provided other than what was
distributed in the board meeting. We have asked for a softcopy of that document (Eastchester Teachers
Association and Eastchester Board of Education - Summary of Major Provisions of Memorandum of Agreement
2006-2011) so we can make it available. We have also asked for a copy of the contract.
To that point, we started out by obtaining the proposed terms from the teachers side but no information was
provided from the school district's side. Click here to see that document

Update June 6, 2006
Apparently even the press can get the information before the taxpayer. Exerpt from an article in the Journal
News....
"The contract boosts the district's salary scale 18.2 percent by the 2010-11 school year, allows teachers to
cash in more unused sick days upon retirement, and creates a half-day on the day before recess for
Thanksgiving and the December holidays.
Teacher salaries are on a 17-step schedule, so individual teachers within their first 17 years with the district will
receive annual cost-of-living increases plus step increases, based on their years with the district. After 17
years, they receive just cost-of-living increases. For example, a teacher with a master's degree plus 60 credit
hours in 2006 would see a pay increase of 33 percent over five years, from $67,507 to $89,728.
The district won concessions from teachers, whose health-insurance contributions will rise from 5 percent to
6.5 percent in five years. The salary schedule was expanded from 15 steps to 17 steps, so it will take new
teachers longer to reach the top salary."
Not bad... any surprise the Teacher's Union is backing the budget? click here for details

Update Oct 13, 2006
Yes, still no copy of the Teacher's Contract in sight. Why? Is it so bad they don't want us to know before the
bond?

Update March 30, 2007
FINALLY! After repeated requests and 9 months later, we have received a copy of the teacher's contract.
Interesting in that it was only available AFTER the February bond vote.
